Check child seat safety standards against UN Regulation 129

Today, let’s talk about UN regulation No.129. Most of people thought R129 equals to i-Size. No, completely not. In the Uniform provisions concerning the approval of Enhanced Child
Restraint Systems used on board of motor vehicles, it shows, the below baby car seats (child restraint system for child occupants of power driven vehicles) all can apply R129 certification.
(a) Integral Universal ISOFIX Enhanced Child Restraint Systems (i-Size);
(b) Integral Specific vehicle ISOFIX Enhanced Child Restraint Systems;
(c) Non-integral Universal Enhanced Child Restraint Systems (i-Size booster seat);
(d) Non-integral Specific vehicle Enhanced Child Restraint Systems (Specific vehicle booster seat);
(e) Integral Universal Belted Enhanced Child Restraint Systems;
(f) Integral Specific vehicle Belted Enhanced Child Restraint Systems.
Here, the Enhanced Child Restraint Systems is Baby Car Seats or Child Safety Seats as known. We can see, there are 6 kinds of baby car seats can apply R129 certification. I-Size is just one of the 6.
In this regulation, it gives definitions of “i-size” and “universal belted.
"i-Size" (Integral Universal ISOFIX Enhanced Child Restraint Systems) is a category of Enhanced Child Restraint System primarily designed for use in all i-Size seating position of a vehicle.
"Universal Belted" (Integral Universal Belted Enhanced Child Restraint System) is a category of Enhanced Child Restraint System primarily designed to be attached only by the adult safety-belt in all universal seating positions of a vehicle.
From the regulation of R129, we can see i-Size not equals to R129 approval. If your baby car seat is universal belted with R129 certification, it’s credible.
